It is Fashion Revolution Week and it is our affair of the heart to support, to participate and to spread our values by means of this week.

First of all: Why do we need a fashion revolution week and what is fast fashion?

„Fast fashion is a contemporary term used by fashion retailers to express that designs move from catwalk quickly in order to capture current fashion trends.“ This is the usual definition of fast fashion which sounds nearly positive. But have you ever wondered who made your clothes? How much money they earn and how do they live? Fast fashion has an extremely dark side for the people who made this clothes and for mother nature as well, so here are a few facts:

  • Workers in the fast fashion industry are one of the lowest paid workers in the world, over 85% of all workers are women
  • Nine out of ten workers interviewed in Bangladesh cannot afford enough food for themselves and their families, the majority of all people making clothes for the fast fashion market live in poverty
  • Globally, we now consume about 80 billion new pieces of clothing every year, 400% more than we were consuming just two decades ago
  • Approximately 7,000 liters of water are needed to produce one pair of jeans
  • More than 90% of that cotton is now genetically modified, using vast amounts of water as well as chemicals. Cotton production is now responsible for 18% of worldwide pesticide use and 25% of total insecticide use
  • If the industry doesn’t change, and it’s fashion business as usual, the apparel industry’s climate impact is expected to increase 49% by 2030
  • Less than 1% of material used to produce clothing is recycled into new textiles and fibres
  • 60% of all clothing produced ends up in incinerators or landfills within a year of being made
  • In the fast fashion industry are over 50 micro seasons, normally everyone just needs a spring/summer and autumn/winter season

The fast fashion industry successfully conditioned us to believe that our happiness increases if we have more stuff, that we are happier when we have more stuff than we truly need and that we are only trendy when we are buying much of clothes every month. But this has nothing to do with the pursuit of happiness and we should STOP THIS immediately! The fashion industry need a revolution. It has to change their business model, their mindset and their awareness for people and planet.

Don’t wait for a change, be the change. We believe in changing the world. So here is our appeal for all strong women who are willing to change something: Do it! You can achieve everything you want if you fight for it. We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly. As a consumer you have so much power to change the world by just being careful in what you buy.

It is our aim to develop bikinis like sports bras that fit like a second skin. All our products are developed and produced in our atelier in Hamburg, Germany. This is the place where the adventure from your bikini get startet. They are handmade for you with love, passion and attention to details.
Many who visit our website for the first time are probably wondering why our prices are a little higher than what you might be used to from other fashion brands. To ensure high quality and life long guarantee as well as sustainable but more importantly dignified and humane production conditions our products have real prices. We stand for humanity, dignity, creativity and emotionality. All of you who know us a little and are part of our movement probably have a sense of how we approach people, nature and our environment. We feel a strong connection to nature and have a lot of love to give.
We assume responsibility for every step we take in the supply chain and production for all Josea products with a clear conscience. All our bikinis and active wear are made sustainable from recycled fishing nets. When selecting materials, our principle is to act sustainably in order to protect the environment in the best possible way.

All our products are handmade with love and passion. Every team member has a deep passion for what he or she does. This is why our products are so unique and emotionally. We strengthen strengths and encourage passion. The personal growth of each employee is our top priority. In contrast to large productions of fast fashion companies, where an employee usually only sews a single seam, each bikini is manufactured completely by one team member, so he or she has a strong sense of responsibility and a high demand on quality. Before a Josea bikini will go on adventures with you, it must pass our very careful quality control and we only ship bikinis which are perfect.
The production from every product starts not until we got your order. This strategy ultimately benefit us all. You, because it’s truly YOUR bikini. Nature, because we only produce products which are really needed and nothing must be thrown away. We, because we don’t need any storages. For that reason our delivery time is a little longer than what you might be used to from fast fashion industries. We want to make a mark - against fast fashion and the throwaway society, against excessive consumption and we stand up for awareness and for love to our planet and for us.
